Inclement weather is forecasted for Sunday through Tuesday.
Outdoor events on Sunday and Monday have moved from Anacapa Lawn to the Hub in
the UCEN.
The conference will be held on the campus of the University of
California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB is located approximately two
miles from the Santa Barbara
airport, and about 10 miles from the city center of Santa
Barbara. The airport is served by over 20 flights a day from major
US hub airports. Many rental car agencies are available in the
immediate area. Santa Barbara is approximately 100 miles (160km)
north of the Los Angeles airport and 350 miles (560km) south of San
Francisco.
Bring a sweater and/or jacket. Santa Barbara
can be cold at night. (This is crucial for the beach party!)
Plenary sessions will be held in the UCSB Corwin Pavilion.
Crypto 2023 will run as a
triple track conference, with meeting rooms in the Corwin Pavilion,
Lotte Lehmann Hall, and MCC Theater.
Ground Transportation To/From the Airport
Due to a staffing shortage, UCSB will not be providing shuttle service between the airport and campus. However, a limited
shuttle service has been arranged with Santa Barbara Limo Bus. During the following times, Santa Barbara Limo Bus will be
providing a shuttle van and driver to ferry Crypto participants between the airport and campus. To find the shuttle at SBA,
please proceed to the general taxi waiting area outside of the airport, map coordinates (34.424866, -119.835727). The
rotational service will be between (34.424866, -119.835727) and Anacapa Hall, UCSB.
If you arrive outside of these windows, or do not want to take the shared van service, Uber and Lyft are typically available. There are also the following taxi services: Green Taxi (805.687.5555), Gold Cab (805.681.9000), Santa Barbara Checker Cab (805.966.6666), and Santa Barbara Yellow Cab (805.965.5111).
On-Campus Accommodations
On-campus accomodations consist of dormitory rooms (dorms) and a small
number of hotel-style rooms at the Club & Guest House. Note that children
under the age of 13 cannot stay in on-site accommodations, so
those bringing younger children will need to make separate arrangements in one of the
nearby hotels.
Reasonably priced on-campus accommodations are available in the university residence
halls (dorms) for conference attendees and their registered guests. These have shared
bathrooms for the floor. Shared rooms are
also available at a reduced rate.
For those who choose not to stay on campus, the following is a list of hotels
which have provided room blocks for Crypto 2023. Those who choose to stay off campus
are responsible for making their own reservations. Early reservations are advised
since August is a popular season in Santa Barbara. Note that none of the hotels is
walking distance to the venue.
Blocks of rooms have been reserved for Crypto 2023 attendees at
Best Western South Coast Inn,
Hampton Inn, and Marriott Courtyard during the dates of Friday, August 18 – Friday,
August 25, 2023. The hotel rates listed below do not include additional taxes and fees.
You must mention UCSB Crypto when you are making your
reservations so you will be eligible for the room block rate, which can be a significant
savings.
Rates for Thursday, Friday & Saturday night stayovers are
often significantly higher. For further information or to find other hotels in the
area, Visit Santa Barbara is a
good resource.

Parking permits are required on campus at all times, and guests will need to
purchase a parking permit if they are bringing a vehicle to campus. Permits are only
valid in the lot designated. Be cautious of where you park. Guests are responsible for
following parking rules and for any penalties.
For participants staying at the Club & Guest House
Specific parking instructions for guests of the Club & Guest House are
available on their website. Upon
check-in, the Club front desk will provide guests with the Clubpark code for the machines in Lot 22. Be sure to
select the total number of days you will be on campus, including your arrival and departure days.
For participants staying in Anacapa or Santa Rosa residence halls
Lot 2 is the closest lot to Anacapa and Santa Rosa Residence Halls. Please note that
the availability of Lot 2 is extremely limited. You will need your vehicle's license plate
number to purchase your permit. Go to the ParkMobile website, use the "Ready to
Park Now" link on the full version of the website or the "Enter Zone Number" screen on
the mobile app. The Zone Number is 2690. Be sure to select the total number of days you will be on
campus, including your arrival and departure days. Your Lot 2 permit will be valid in
Parking Structure 18 and Parking Structure 22 in case you find Lot 2 to be full.
Your permit will also allow you to park temporarily in green 40-minute spaces for
unloading purposes. Attention: Do NOT purchase parking in advance, as the UCSB option on the ParkMobile applies the reservation starting from the day of purchase.
Please download the ParkMobile app before arriving on campus, as the app may not function on mobile devices. If you have issues downloading the app, proceed to Parking Structure 18 or Parking Structure 22 and park there, where parking permits can be purchased on the machine. Permits from Parking Structure 18 or Parking Structure 22 cannot be used in Lot 2 or elsewhere on campus.
For participants staying off-campus
Parking Structure 18 or Parking Structure 22 are where guests staying off-campus
should park. You will need your vehicle's license plate number to purchase your
permit. When you arrive at one of these parking structures, proceed to one of the pay
stations in the structure and follow the prompts on the screen to purchase a multi-day
permit called "Summer Conference". In Lot 22 select "5" for more selections multiple
times until the “Summer Conference” label displays. You are able to select up to 7
days with this permit option. Be sure to select the total number of days you will be
on campus, including
your arrival and departure days. Your permit will also allow you to park temporarily in
green 40-minute spaces for unloading purposes.
Dietary Requirements
Receptions at Crypto 2023 will cater to a
variety of dietary preferences, with refreshments
notated as e.g., vegetarian or vegan. If you have special dietary
restrictions beyond
this, such as Kosher, Halal, or food allergy accommodation requests,
please notate
those when booking lodging (if on-campus) and at registration.
Please note that the deadline for special dietary requests is July 15th. Due to
catering planning timelines, we cannot accept special requests after this date.
Summer COVID Protocols
Attendees are encouraged to test for COVID before arrival and should stay
home if any symptoms of illness are present.
Attendees who test positive for COVID while on campus are encouraged to
depart campus within 24 hours. Attendees who test positive for COVID
should mask around others and follow current CDC COVID isolation
guidelines.
Summer conference guests who are ill should not participate in conference
events and should not visit the Dining Commons. If an ill guest has Dining
Commons meals as part of their room & board package, they may have
another conference attendee pick up a "Sick Meal" authorization form from
the 24/7 front desk in their area and present the completed form to the
Dining Commons lobby checker who will allow them to retrieve a meal for
the ill attendee.
Masking is optional.
Other Travel Notes
Anacapa 24/7 Desk
Due to a construction project to replace part of the roof in Santa Rosa, the 24/7 front
desk for the Channel Island 5 residence halls (Anacapa, San Miguel, San Nicolas,
Santa Cruz, and Santa Rosa) will be in Anacapa residence hall this summer. The 24/7

Construction on Highway 217
A bridge replacement project on Highway 217, just north of the Henley Gate entrance
to UCSB, will begin in mid-April. Please allow extra travel time.
This construction may impact airport access, as the Sandspit Road on and offramps
may be periodically closed. Passengers traveling to and from the Santa Barbara
Airport will be advised to use the Highway 101/Fairview Avenue exits or an alternate
route to access the Terminal during this time.
Road information and updates can be found on Caltrans District 5's Twitter, Facebook,
and Instagram accounts. On the day of travel, visitors can use Quickmap (under
"Options" be sure to check the boxes for "Lane Closures", "Full Closures", "CHP
Incidents" and "Highway Information" in the Road Conditions section).
